Skilled listening.
Not therapy.

Heardspace provides confidential listening support delivered by qualified adult nurses trained in BCAP listening skills. This is not therapy, counselling, or a diagnosis. There is no treatment plan.

What you receive is something rarer: skilled, human presence. A nurse who listens without agenda, without advice, without judgement — so you can think clearly, feel less alone, and find your own way forward.

What this is not

  • Therapy or psychotherapy
  • Counselling or CBT
  • A clinical diagnosis or assessment

How a session works

A Heardspace session is simple. You choose how you would like to speak, and a qualified nurse listens — with full attention, in complete confidence.

For individuals

When you need someone to simply listen

Perhaps you feel overwhelmed, isolated, or find it difficult to talk to those closest to you. Perhaps you are not quite ready for therapy, or you have tried it and found what you need is something quieter and more human.

Heardspace offers a confidential space that belongs to you entirely. No notes shared with your GP, your employer, or anyone else. Just a skilled, caring nurse ready to give you their full attention.

This may be for you if you are:

  • Feeling overwhelmed or unable to cope
  • Grieving or adjusting to a major life change
  • Struggling with loneliness or not feeling understood
  • Wanting to talk things through before deciding on next steps

For organisations

A wellbeing benefit your people will actually use

Generic EAP helplines go unused because employees do not trust them. Heardspace is different: a nurse-led, confidential listening service that feels personal and professional — not a call centre.

HR and wellbeing managers can offer Heardspace as a staff benefit with confidence — knowing their people have access to meaningful support, from a qualified professional, whenever they need it.

Heardspace works well for:

  • Teams under sustained pressure or going through change
  • Organisations wanting more than a standard EAP
  • HR teams seeking a trusted, nurse-led referral pathway
  • Employers who value genuine wellbeing over box-ticking

Sometimes all a person needs is to be truly heard. Not fixed, not diagnosed — heard.

Heardspace was founded on a simple conviction: that skilled, compassionate listening is a form of care in itself. Not a stepping stone to something clinical, not a checkbox in a wellbeing programme — but something genuinely valuable on its own terms.

The nurses who work with Heardspace bring their professional training together with a real depth of human warmth. BCAP-trained and experienced in listening across a wide range of life circumstances, they are here because they believe in this work.

Heardspace exists because everyone deserves a space to speak — and someone genuinely ready to listen.

Trained adult nurses — not volunteers, not a helpline

Common questions

Answered honestly.

No. Heardspace is not therapy, counselling, or any form of clinical treatment. There is no diagnosis, no treatment plan, and no medical intervention. Our nurses are trained in BCAP listening skills, which means they are skilled at listening deeply and supportively — not at providing advice or therapeutic intervention. If a nurse believes you would benefit from clinical support, they may gently mention that, but it is always your choice what you do next.

All Heardspace listeners are qualified adult nurses who have undergone additional training in BCAP listening skills. They are professional, experienced, and genuinely committed to this work. They are not volunteers, not call centre agents — they are skilled healthcare professionals who have chosen to dedicate time to this kind of support.

Yes — completely. Nothing you share in a session is passed to your GP, your employer, or any third party without your explicit consent. Confidentiality is fundamental to how Heardspace works. There are very limited legal exceptions (as with all health professionals), which a nurse can explain before your first session if you would like to understand them.

Most EAP helplines involve speaking to a different person each time, often reading from a script, with little continuity of care. Heardspace offers a consistent, professional nurse who gives you their full and unhurried attention. There are no questionnaires to fill in before you can speak, no assessments, and no waiting list in the way there might be for therapy.

Yes. Heardspace works with organisations to provide a nurse-led listening benefit for staff. If you are an HR or wellbeing lead interested in offering this to your people, please get in touch using the form below and we will explain how it works in practice.

Anything that is weighing on you. There is no agenda in a Heardspace session, and no topic that is off-limits. People use the space to talk about bereavement, relationship difficulties, work pressures, feeling stuck, loneliness, anxiety, or simply needing to say things out loud that they have never been able to say to someone in their life.
